Abstract work, beeswax, mixed media forms
This series consists of a series of abstract objects composed of steel screening, foam, fabric, beeswax, string, pine needles and other recycled organic materials.
These works allow for visual exploration and sensation through form, color, texture, and movement. A simple form such as the line is given identity in thread, string or rope, held in place and made organic with beeswax. String is typically seen as a practical item used to assist in life’s many daily necessary functions. But I see it as similar to line in drawing, rather than as a purely functional item. It has infinite possibilities and can be shaped into multifaceted entities. Combining string with the beeswax and fabric I am able to create abstract forms that engage the viewer both in a visual and tactile manner.
The natural materials of pine needles, seeds, and seed pods combined with the wax create a sense of the living as well as a touch of animation. This series seeks to bring out these forms in combinations that call attention to both the humanly constructed and the natural world.
